Master Builders member
GXL Homes Ltd is a member of the Registered Master Builders Association of New Zealand. Membership is what allows us to offer the Master Build 10-Year Guarantee.
The Guarantee is administered by Master Build Services, a subsidiary of Registered Master Builders, rather than by us. That is the point of it: subject to its terms, the cover is not dependent on GXL Homes still being in business.
A Guarantee is not automatic. It is applied for on each individual project and has to be arranged before work starts, so it is worth raising with us early. The full terms, cover levels and limits are set and published by Registered Master Builders at masterbuilder.org.nz.
Built under LBP supervision
Every GXL home is built under the supervision of a Licensed Building Practitioner. All restricted building work — the structural and weathertightness elements of a house, meaning foundations, framing, roofing and cladding — is carried out or supervised by an LBP, as the Building Act requires.
Licensing in New Zealand applies to individuals rather than companies, so it is the practitioner who holds the licence, not the building company. At the end of the job that person issues a Record of Work, which goes to the council with the application for your code compliance certificate.
